Christmas Is Here!!
I love making christmas presents and this year is no different!
So with that comes ‘Project Gingerbread House’ 7 gingerbread houses for 7 awesome neices and nephews.
I’m a fan of Darker gingerbread so as always I found a beautiful recipe and then altered it to suit me.
I followed a recipe from Donna Hay magazine, it was this recipe but x 4 (https://www.donnahay.com.au/recipes/occasions/gingerbread-village).
I then switched the golden syrup for treacle, ditched the mixed spice, and added 4 tsp of cinnamon, 3 tsp ground nutmeg, and 3 tsp ground clove.
Also I found that I only needed to cook each tray of house pieces for 10 to 15 mins and did not need to put them back in the oven at a lower temperature, but I like my biscuits a little chewier.
Decorating is the fun part, and we (I had a little help with this part, 7 houses is a lot and it could have taken all day, but we busted it out in only an hour and a half , after cooking and cooling the gingerbread) used some flat chocolate buttons, green, red, and white smarties, mint leaves, and of course candy canes. experiment and have fun, I’ve even made it a party before.
To make the icicles you just pipe a dot on the edge of the roof and pull away quickly whilst still piping consistently, it takes a little practice but once you have it it’s easy.
Lets hope We don’t get in trouble for providing even more sugar to the kids this christmas…
